I've just finished watching Mushishi. After having tried to stretch it to max by watching an episode only now and then in order to lengthen the pleasure as long as possible. Now I'm sad.

I think I'm more of a racing through something when I like it, but there are exceptions when I prefer to watch/read it slowly. Of course the nature of the work influences that, the pacing may be more suited to waiting and pondering between episodes. But generally speaking, I prefer to have the whole of something before my eyes before starting, and I prefer to go through it quickly. For example there are few manga I read as soon as the scanlations go up because I'd rather wait for a whole volume before reading it, otherwise I feel like the story is in shattered pieces. When I really anticipate something, too, I'd rather wait to be in the proper mood, and right moment to properly concentrate on it. What do you guys think? When you like a story, do you prefer to race through to get to the end, or to slow down and savour it?

Ohhh, I loved Mushishi. Such a gorgeous series. I still remember watching the first episode and actually gasping a little at how beautiful some parts were.

I usually prefer to go quickly through a series, too. For quieter series I don't mind slowing down, but for lots of things I worry that if I go too long between episodes/chapters/volumes I'll lose the thread of story, and cliffhangers stress me out far too much. But this means I usually end up waiting until stories are finished or almost finished, so it'll be easier to go through it in one mad rush--and thus I end up with piles and piles of things that are backlogged. XD

Yeah, it's just that beautiful ♥

hehe, I often wait for stuff to be over as well (although i seldom backlog in between, i just try to remember to get it when it's finished). But sometimes i also like to watch as it goes, so as to share reactions with the fandom (or just read them, really) every week or so. There are some shows where I really miss not having seen it on first release so I could get other people's reaction, you know.

Ooh, I love Mushishi.

I don't really have the willpower to stretch things most of the time, but that's one reason why I like webcomics. When I read comics in a rush, I end up glossing over the pictures and going straight for the narrative, rather than really looking at the whole picture, but when something updates only once a day or week or so, if I want to make it last, I have to take my time looking at the art and reading the text.

Usually, though, I blaze straight through things, especially if they have significant plot arcs, because I really want to know what happens.

Mushishi is love.

Haha, interesting. I also love reading comics very quickly, which is why I love manga which has an artstyle and layout more suited to taking it in intuitively, so to speak, than to watch attentively each drawing (especially compared to European comics). Most of the webcomic I follow don't have that good art anyway XD

It's hard to answer this; sometimes I've very much into reading everything all at once, and other times, I like to savor it.

I definitely can say that, with really good authors, if it's a one-shot, I do this weird thing where I hold off on reading it because I know it's going to be good, and I kind of wait until I have the right "space" to read it in. Strange, but true.

*nodsnods* that's what I do to... waiting for the right space? Not often, but sometimes ^^

I rush through most things, (books, shows, video games) but once I've finished it, I like to wait for the edge to wear off before starting over again and savoring it then. As a result, I do prefer a series to be complete before I pick it up. It's hard for me to maintain that same level of fanatical interest release to release.

I try to slow down and savour it because I don't want it to be over so soon, but I've got no actual impulse control -- I end up rushing through. :P

Hrm, tough question. For TV...it depends if I'm going to be reading stuff online about it? A lot of the time, if I'm marathoning stuff quickly, I enjoy it more because I'm not analyzing it to death, so it seems fresher and less predictable.

I'm also a chronic re-watcher/re-reader, so I do get that savoring time...although there have definitely been times where I've wished I could read AGOT again for the first time!

I'm the girl that reads the endings first, so I rush a lot, so much that I can't actually remember titles or authors most times.
That said, I also like the dread and the excitement of not knowing, specially with suspenseful series. Lately, for example, myfamily has made a ritual out of watching a Spanish police procedural AS IT'S AIRED just because it's awesome to go ASHAJKSDHKDA every once in a while.
But I do like to reread so it's then that I catch other things.

I also love Mushishi, it is so gorgeous and interesting.

I didn't manage to watch it slowly. The last episode made me cry a little bit, because of the storyline and because it was the last episode.

It's pretty inconsistent for me, and is usually based on stress/mood. Though if it takes me more than a month to read an average-sized book, I probably just don't care for it. There are exceptions, too. :p

As for anime/TV, I just can't even watch it anymore. It's too slow-paced for me, and usually too predictable. x_x

I love to begin watching a series or reading a series after it is already finished so I can sit and just obsessively consume it in it's entirety. If I thought it was really good then I will go back and watch or read my favorite passages over again to reflect on it or just to savor the humor. I agree with you about loosing the thread of story, as well. and I also completely loose interest in finishing the story if too much time passes in between parts.

Depends on the mood mainly.

I hate it if I have to watch/read/see something
due to some sort of deadline because I can't
decide what my mood will be and it is a shame
if I can't take all the pleasure one artwork
promises to give.

So I usually wait for my mood to be the
most appropriate for the artwork.

Sometime I just stop reading/watching something
in the middle and just go through something else,
waiting to be the good mood again...

I like to have a complete work before starting
(such an nuisance to have to wait if my mood
feels right to continue)

I'm going to be blunt about this
