1/ I saw someone with an icon of Michiko, looking very pretty and I asked the person using it what it was from and if it was good. The person answered and said yes to the latter :)

2/ I love the overall atmosphere, the mix of action & slice of life in a less habitual setting; I love the characters and their interaction, especially Michiko-Hatchin and Michiko-Atsuko, I really love Michiko, and the fact it's very much centered around women and their relationships with one another... and is therefore femslashy ♥

3/ Michiko ♥ she's awesome, I fell in love on first sight. Hatchin and Atsuko are also pretty darn awesome. I rather like Battista too, he's an interesting villain.

4/ Michiko/Atsuko. Atsuko is so much in love with Michiko all through the series, it's pretty heart breaking.

5/ Fanfics. Michiko/Atsuko fanfics; and any kinds of well written fanfics really. WHY IS THIS FANDOM SO DEAD *weeps*
I'd do with more icons too. -_-

Au début, je me demandais si c'était juste mes femslash goggles, mais en fait non ! C'est impossible d'interprêter autrement !!!

Bon, je vais faire le mème aussi !

1) I don't really remember. I probably grabbed the book at random.
2) I find the novels pretty addictive in all their glorified purpleness. The characters are compelling, I adore the world building (especially the amount of mythology references, the fact that there are Jews - a rarity in fantasy), and the whole BDSM themes are fun, especially in the spiritual hippie hyper tolerant in which sex is portrayed in Terre d'Ange's culture. There aren't any blatant errors about the way French is set up either, despite the gratuitous exotification.

3) My favorite characters
Not sure actually. Especially not in the first trilogy, I don't remember loving any one character significantly more than the others. I'm generally fond of Phèdre and Joscelin and Melisandre and my memory of minor characters is very vague. Perhaps I should reread.

4) Ships that interest me
Melisandre/Phèdre. A good antagonistic femslash pairing is so rare, and I'm an antagonistic shipper at heart, and I'd love to have more femslash ships. Mel/Phèdre is very good, it's got BDSM, mindfuck, some genuine respect and affection as well as betrayals. Though I was saddened by how much it lost focus compared to early in the series.

5) I would have liked for Melisandre/Phèdre to be more in the center of the series as I was saying. I mean, I didn't dislike the Joscelin/Phèdre as a romance or anything, but they're very twee and that don't particularly rock my world. Sidonie/Imriel is even worse in that.

In the second trilogy, I was also disappointed by the lack of plot and Imriel's... I dunno, angsty woobism? Somethign like that. Guy lacked the spunk he had in Kushiel's Avatar.

Speaking of Kushiel's Avatar it had some racism issues.

1) How I got into this fandom
My friend [livejournal.com profile] chaineddove said "You've got to see that!"

and I said "You sure? I thought it was by the guy who made Sailor Moon or something, which I don't like, and I tried reading the manga once, years ago, and I didn't like it."

and she said: "YES! YES! You do! I'll show you that double episode from the 3rd arc about Juri's love triangle to convince you and Nanami's Egg is one the same DVD so I'll show you that as well. I'll fill you in the details and fangirl about Ruka while we watch so you can follow it."

And I said: "...!!"

And I said "I want to watch more of this."

And we marathoned the first, third and fourth arc (she didn't have the second with her), and I missed my train in order to watch the finale. And when I got home I spent something like 4 fucking months to download the whole series from Boxtorrent.

And this is how I got into Utena.

2) What I love about this fandom
The symbolism, the mindfuck, the feminism, the fairy tale deconstruction, the incest, the femslash, the maleslash, the rampant sexuality everywhere, the depth of interpretation, Ikuhara's trolling answers to people in interviews, how smart people are in the fandom, and everything really.

3) My favorite characters
Anthy, Kozue, Saionji, Juri, Nanami, Mikage and most characters really.

4) Ships that interest me
I'm ridiculously fond of Touga/Saionji. Really that's most of what I read in terms of fics. Love that friendship betrayed yet still... there thing. And the mindfuck. Haha. And Saionji is hilarious. I love that ridiculous jerk.

I'll read stuff around the Juri/Shiori/Ruka triangle as well, and Utena/Anthy/Akio triangle as well, though I'm weirdly uninterested into Utena/Anthy. The latter, again, mostly for the mindfuck. And Kozue goes well with everyone.

5) Something I'd like to see/would like to have seen
Better animation? I mean, i've got nothing else. Oh yeah, more fics and general fandom activities even now. Or to have been part of the fandom in its heydays.

And this is how I got into Utena.

That might be one of the best getting-into-fandom tales I've heard. ♥

And Saionji is hilarious. I love that ridiculous jerk.

Ha, this is like the fifth or sixth time I've seen someone express that opinion almost verbatim, and I feel the same. So funny that in comparison to some of the other characters in the series poor Saionji comes as so weirdly lovable. XD

I love seeing what you have to say about the series, so I hope you didn't mind me asking for it. *g*

1/ IIRC you're actually the one who got me into the fandom :) I'm pretty sure you mentionned it once as good as well as giving a link to the comm to download it, and I was bored that day so I gave it a try and was BLOWN AWAY.

2/ The world building and how careful and respectful it is, the consistency and call backs, the action sequences and epic-ness, the way it doesn't shy away from tackling serious issues and doesn't dumb them down because it's for kids, the heart it's got in thematics and the characters who are adorable.

3/ Iroh in S1, for being hilarious and awesome. I fell in love pretty much right away before I warmed up to any other character yet.
Toph in S2, again, pretty much INSTANT LOVE. She's awesome ♥
Zuko in S3, it took me a while to start really liking Zuko, but by the time I did, I was totally d'awwww for most of his scenes, especially the ones in the Eclipse and when he meets the gaang for the first time. He's such a dweeb ^^

and of course, I love pretty much everyone ^^

4. It's not a very shippy fandom for me (people are too sane ^^ not to mention too young); but I love the Azula/Zuko for the mindfuck and sibling rivalry, right in my Amber kink; and I've read a lot of Jet/Zuko. I kind of like Toph/Zuko as well; and of course Mai/Zuko is pretty cute. Yeah, Zuko's a nice little black dress.

5. I would have loved to see more done with Ursa in general, that's one aspect where the finale was a little tiny bit rushed. I'd love to see anything more set in that world, during different eras, exploring other parts of the setting. It's such a rich and interesting world!

1) How I got into this fandom
T'was summer 1999 or 2000, I forget, I was staying with some friends in the Bordeau area, and browsing through their library. I remember trying out Vernor Vinge and not going farther than two pages before dropping, and the friend told : hey try this fantasy series, it's pretty good. And it was. Though it was only half the first time (French translate divides volumes a lot) I spent the night reading it :)

2) What I love about this fandom
I love characters and the plot the most, it's really well built and intricate with a lot of clever foreshadowing an built upon the logic of characterisation. I love how grey most of the characters are, I can really like them because of that. The writing is also very much adequate and the world building very solid.

3) My favorite characters
Arya and Sansa, Jaime and Tyrion, Davos and Bran, Sandor Clegane, Littlefinger, Brienne, Daenarys, Oberyn...

4) Ships that interest me
I loooooove Sandor/Sansa much more than I should. it's the Beauty & Beast trope. Jaime/Brienne as well.
For something more non canonical, I'm fond of Jon/Theon (hatesex ftw); Jaime/Loras, Jaime/Arthur, Jaime/Pretty much everyone that guy is hot, Cersei/Sansa (err).
Though recently I've had trouble reading asoiaf fics sadly.

5) Something I'd like to see/would like to have seen
... I'd like to the see the end of this series? ^_^
More f/f interactions in general, I don't mean actual femslash but female friendships because it's not something that GRRM writes much.
I wish the actual femslash scene were written much, much better and not like the weird... thing that they are.
I'd like some maleslash scene!

1) How I got into this fandom
Back when I was middle school, I passed very, very often to my local public library. It had lots of shelve filled with SFF books and it was happiness. Someday I saw those new books with "HUGO award" written on them with fancy covers by Caza, so I picked them up and tried them. And they were good. I think I started with the Vor Game and Barrayar, though I forgot which specifically was first. I remember being very confused through most of Barrayar but being delighted with Vor Game (yes they translated Vor Game before they did Warrior's Apprentice).

2) What I love about this fandom
They are remarkably addictive books mostly because they are so well rounded. I remember one of the first things I really liked was the humour. Miles' self depreciative sarcastic/hysterical wit is really right on my wave in term of sense of humour; I remember laughing aloud in public often while reading them. They are fast paced, ingenuous, fun, with very likeable characters. Moreover the characters really grow through the story and develop in unexpected directions instead of repeating the formula ad nauseam. With time I've developed more appreciation for some of the more subtle social commentary that's also there.
The fandom itself is smart and loveable.

3) My favorite characters
Miles, mostly, by virtue of being one of the rare character I identify with. Ivan, most of the time. Bel Thorne, Ekaterin, Duv, Illyan, Mark, Piotr, Cordelia, Byerly, Bothari...

4) Ships that interest me
Upon reading A Civil Campaign, By/Ivan definitely. They have such a fun dynamic together.
Otherwise this is really not one of my most shippy fandom. I like Miles with Ekaterin enough.

5) Something I'd like to see/would like to have seen
Asides from some canon By/Ivan and generally speaking more Byerly; lol, well I'd like to see more things exploring the setting asides of Miles in general. Stuff about the past of Barrayar, the childhood of Aral and the war Piotr fought in sound fascinating. I'd like to see yet more about Cetaganda as well, it's an intriguing societies. Having characters like Ivan, Duv or Bel be the hero of their own story would really appeal too.

Whoa, the French covers are rather different from the ones I'm used to! I think the US covers are pretty bad, but in a way that makes them look like lots of other bad sci-fi covers. These are definitely not the same sort of look, though I doubt that, without a title, I would be able to figure out they were Vorkosiverse covers... XP

the childhood of Aral and the war Piotr fought in sound fascinating

Yes! I'd love to see more of that, too. I want to see young Aral raising hell, and I am hugely fond of Count Piotr, so would love more of him, too (I was very sad he died so early on in Miles's adventures...) Would love a Duv or Ivan book, too (or, hell, a Duv and Ivan book -- I'm sure they would both find a renwed partnership nicely frustrating ;D. And I like Bel a lot, too, and would like to read about him provided it did not involve Quaddies; Quaddies are quite boring to me... (But Cetaganda doesn't do anything for me. It's my least favorite Miles book, I think, and the only one I've felt no urge to reread whatsoever.)

1) How I got into this fandom
I was reading a lot of manga at stores back in those days (which was late high-school / early college life for me) and had read most CLAMP series available back then though I didn't love most of them. Anyway, I picked up Tokyo Babylon and at first I thought it was cute but meh, and then by volume 3 I got interesting, and then BAM the finale. And I didn't even realise that was the finale but that was such an intriguing punch in the stomach. Then I borrowed the X DVDs from a friend, not knowing it was tied to TB, so I put the first episode (the "0" OAV) in and I go WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT HOKUTO WHAT IS SHE DOING THERE.
And then I was hooked. Oh how I was hooked. Actually some of my first LJ entries is about getting obsessed by TB/X if you look back there XD Anyway I hit the internet and found many wondrous LJ communities and then started friending people and that was the start of my fandom life on LJ in general (I had created LJ a few months before that, and had a few people friended from my previous fandom - BtVS - which I had entirely followed from forums & mailing list; but that's all)

2) What I love about this fandom
Seishirou/Subaru is one of those couples that push my shopping buttons very VERY HARD. It's got mindfuck, it's got love as a corruptive force, it's got antagonism in general and a lot of duality motifs and symbolism (and non dualism), and it's got eros/thanatos. Hot.
It also has a cool urban fantasy vibe - low key, semi realistic stuff in TB, and the epic magic of X, both are pretty awesome and interesting. It's got the great character design of CLAMP with likeable and kind of crazy characters, including a lot of awesome female characters like Hokuto and Karen and Yuzuriha; and it's got Tarot references! and femslash and maleslash, and BDSM. And TB has a lot of depth in thematics which I also love and Babel Tower myth references. And X has evil Kabbalistic Freemasons which always makes me laugh.
And the fandom, I love the fandom because back in the days it had this "We kill puppies!" attitude which was hilarious and awesome, the dude, this is X, rocks quake, everyone die and everyone have sex with everyone, and boy could it be wanky at times, but it was fun :D

3) My favorite characters
My favourite characters in X are Sorata and Arashi. Sorata because I adore his attitude, very much grabbing all there is to life while knowing he's going to die as well as his kindness and empathy. Arashi because there's a certain grace and depth to her I'd have a hard time describe. Other favourite include Karen, Hokuto, Seishirou, Subaru, Yuzuriha, Yuuto, Keiichi, Saya, Tokiko, Tohru, Satsuki, Kotori and Setsuka.
There is way too many characters in that manga.

4) Ships that interest me
Asides Seishirou/Subaru, there is Tohru/Saya, Satsuki/Yuzuriha, Karen/Yuuto, Karen/Hokuto, Kamui/Subaru, Fuuma/Kamui, Subaru/Fuuma, Sorata/Yuuto... though I can't stay I'm still interested in any of them nowadays apart from Sei/Su XD

5) Something I'd like to see/would like to have seen
A FUCKING ENDING, for one.

An animated version of Tokyo Babylon that went through the stories in the manga would have been nice too.

Tokyo Babylon & X were the two works I was really in the fandom of for CLAMP and I just answered for them above. So I'm going to try to answer for everything but those for you ^^

1) How I got into this fandom
I think my earlier encounter with CLAMP was the French dub for Card Captor Sakura which was broadcast on TV when I was 13 or 14 at just the point when there was almost no Anime anymore on mainstream TV and before they starting hitting big once more. I was pretty fond of it, especially of Touya, due to his hotness (or Thomas, as it were ^_^ silly dubs)
Otherwise I read several of their manga, some time after, many of which I did not like (lol), but I was fond of Man of Many Faces, Clamp Campus Detectives for being silly and adorable, at least. Then I read Tokyo Babylon, RG Veda and X in close succession and that was it, I was hooked. CLAMP could do the kind of melodramatic angst and epic tragedy I craved. I mean, RG Veda has maleslash vore, how can you not love that? XD

2) What I love about this fandom
CLAMP are awesome, crazy ladies. They do their own cover design and book binding design. They put maleslash and femslash pretty much everywhere, even when they do shounen and seinen (though I think they're a bit more low key than they used to be about it); and have some other totally radical and deeply fucked up idea about love if you read CCS (and really most of their works). They crack me up.
Also CLAMP's works are, systematically, works where I can expect that Everyone Is Bi, as a baseline assumption, which makes me happy as a bisexual girl.
Also there's Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, which is very far from good but which is a megacrossover AU fanfic written by their own author, which is in itself pretty fucking cool in a trolling fashion. Especially in its second WHAT A TWEEST part.

3) My favorite characters
Asides from the ones from TB/X mentionned above, Touya (CCS), Kujaku (RGV), Yuuko (XXXholic), Kurogane (TRC), Nokoru (CCD), Kendappa-Ou (RGV), Shaolan (CCS), Oruha and Suu (Clover)...

4) Ships that interest me
Again, asides from the TB/X ones; I ship Touya/Yukito(Yue) (one of my rare "fluffy" ship, they don't even bicker!), Kurogane/Fai, Rikuou/Kazahaya (Legal Drugs), Clow/Yuuko, Oruha/Suu, Nokoru/Tomoyo (crack pairing! it makes sense really), Mong Ryong/Chun Hyang (Legend of Chun Hyang), Kentarou/Takeshi (Duklyon), Kendappa/Souma (RGV)

5) Something I'd like to see/would like to have seen
And ending for X, Lawful Drug, Clover, the Legend of Chun Hyang would be really nice.

Legal Drug's the one I most want to see more of. Clover's great, but it feels less incomplete to me.
