Top 5 fictional worlds (any medium) that you would like to see an RPG set in
1) The Coldfire Trilogy : mostly for the genius magic system which I always found very interesting and filled with potential. Also like the mix of standard medieval fantasy with SF elements via planetary romance which allow for some more modern elements in the mix in interesting ways.
2) Fables (the comic book series) or Princess Tutu - co ex equo they have similar theme in term of intersection between fairy tales and reality, in a meta-ish way, but with very different treatment. I think I've seen tries with Fables especially that didn't seem too bad (using the nWoD system), though there's always the risk to mix in too much ideas and concepts in a similar manner to the way Changeling the Dreaming did
3) This Alien Shore : yes another Friedman books, what can I say, I love her setting building. There aren't a lot of SF settings for RPGs and those that do exist tend not to interest me (often to movie/TV conceit of Sci Fi for my taste, or a contrario, to hard SF). This Alien Shore hits a sweet spot of intriguing social SF in a way that's a great set up for adventuring still; holds a lot of diversity of cultures while still being a network, and has a reasonnable justification for having "aliens" who are not too-aliens (they're actually humans!). Had some of the other cool details in the various societies depicted in the book you have a good set up - though one might want to get inspiration from other stuff to properly thicken it.
4) Anita Blake : don't laugh, I really think the series - early on that is - had some pretty neat and solid ideas in term of world building / setting that I wouldn't mind seeing in a contemporary supernatural game overall.
5) American Gods : because if there's something Scion made clear is that there's a need and potential audience for a game that does that; it's just that Scion is a terrible game for it. But yeah, something that plays up Mythological gods & heroes and monsters in a modern setting would be really rad.

(while I doubt Draegarea would have make the cut anyway, though it would make the long list, I have to mention here that House of the Blooded seems to me perfect to make an adaptation of it)

les cinq fins (livres, séries, films) que tu trouves les plus satisfaisantes. Which for those who don't speak French means ! "the five best endings (books, series, movies) that you find the most satisfying"
1) Revolutionary Girl Utena. Really stands out!
2) The Last Unicorn. "She will remember your heart when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits. Of all unicorns, she is the only one who knows what regret is - and love. "
3) Usual Suspects ^_^
4) Watchmen
5) Petshop of Horror

incidentally I was the person who created the Bittersweet Ending page on TV Tropes wiki :3

Hey, I love them both too ^^

Hm, I bet love for both has gone up with a lot of people recently due to MLP....

-Marsupilamis-

I will admit, I had to look that one up.

I agree. I've read some of the comics which only cover the early stuff, and I could see playing a cool game there.

Haha, yeah I imagine. I probably have to watch it sometimes. Already my opinion of the design has gone from "... weird" to "okay, kind of cute".

That makes me want to find some scans and post them on scans_daily. Everyone should know about the marsupilami!!! they're so adorable.

Except I have no scans and scans_daily won't approve my membership. ;_;

Yeah, I think what really appeals to me is the... Shadowrun without the cyber aspect, you know? There's something appealing about magic and supernatural elements being out to the public and given the whole pop culture and for-money-exploitation deal; and Anita Blake was the first Urban Fantasy to do so (I believe) and I still can't think of any game that handles that sort of stuff in a contemporary setting.

... apparently not. I've been trying all this week. I even PM-ed a moderator. Nobody answered me. Perhaps they just don't like me for some reason. It kind of puzzles me, I admit.

Honestly I've got no idea.

5) I know you could do something like that in Armageddon, the sort-of-sequel to Unisystem's Witchcraft (maybe even in Witchcraft itself though it's been forever and I don't remember the point totals of the different archetype things you could pick from so maybe not).

My boyfriend's also working on writing his own take on the modern gods/children of the gods thing for the One Roll Engine games, but I'm not sure how far he is yet. Technically you could actually run a game like it in Wild Talents as is, since while it's originally for a superhero game it can be used for a lot of different things (I'm running my Hindu Mythology: With Giant Robots mecha game in WT).

yeaah but isn't Armageddon all Appocalyptic as a setting?

Ooooh that sounds awesome!! ORE is a bit crunchy for my taste (though that's probably because I never tested it in play) but that's definitly great news!

Oh yeah, you can do stuff with superheroes game systems - I think Legends Walk! is usually the one most often mentioned as a replacement for Scion. But American Gods has a vibe that's pretty different from superheroes stuff, I'd like something representing that sort of weirder vibe better. More Nobilis, you know? Actually I should look into the newest edition of Nobilis, I'm curious what the game system changes are...

It is apocalyptic, but you can hack it and just use the mechanics. At least, that's what I remember doing in the game that I played of it years ago, but even so there are better choices.

It honestly depends on what ORE: don't know about Reign, since I haven't actually touched it, but Monsters and Other Childish Things (which sadly wouldn't work for a Scion game) isn't especially crunchy. Wild Talents is somewhat more frontloaded for chargen but it's simpler once you actually play it.

I'm honestly not sure what got changed in Nobilis's new edition, though some of my friends have read it and liked it.

Oh! Good point. Would need to look into that :)

okay, I didn't know so much about the ORE system that different versions were less crunchy.

Very interesting answers on the RPG question -- which drive home again that I really should read some Friedman one of these days. (I've been keeping an eye out for her books, but the ones I keep coming across are the "wrong" ones.) I didn't realize there was an American Gods game (apparently a bad one XP), but I agree that would be a very cool setting!

(I've been reading through the Dragaera mailing list, and one of the things that comes up there is that apparently Dragaera grew out of some sort of RPG campaign.)

I loved the "books written by rabbits" line at the end of The Last Unicorn, and very much like the ending of Watchmen and The Usual Suspects, too.

oh, Scion isn't an adaptation of American Gods, but it is a game that is about playing children of Gods and mortals in a modern world. It was a pretty bad game, yet did have a pretty good success just because the concept is something so appealing to people (and American Gods was often mentionned by player and would be players as one of the reason it appeals).

and one of the things that comes up there is that apparently Dragaera grew out of some sort of RPG campaign.)
yeah i think i've heard this as well. It's not the only fantasy series XD
