Up to p.460 / Jon's seventh chapter, not included

Tyrion VII
I like the whore of Vogarro's whore. And at least Tyrion has stopped the self pity for now.

Jon VI
And so we have a new wedding to look forward to! Weddings are always such fun in ASOIAF :D

Davos IV
Haha, of course Davos couldn't die! (*is relieves anyway *hugs Davos*)

Interesting twist. Davos to Rickon's rescue, going in the Neck, I suppose? That shall be interesting. Does that mean he'll eventually meet the infamous Howland Reed?

Ramsey Bolton as The Hunter kind of amuses me in equal part as it horrifies. I've read too many coldfire fanfics. It does horrify me a lot; it's a weird disconnect.

Daenarys V
There's the white mare. ouch.
Things really going from bad to worse for Dany. Wonder how it'll work out.

Melisandre I
"I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only Snow."
Hah.

It's weird to see Melisandre doing a kindness to Davos. Oh well, well subverted. The witchy fanatic woman is actually not evil, she just likes looking scary; and I'm starting to like her.

MANCE! yay! Glad you're alive :D Did think something could be afoot (what with all the begging and denying he be the king during the execution scene) but I did not dare hope it might be so.

This is starting to be a lot of people who are not after all dead though. Careful, Martin, people are already saying you're too shy to kill characters. You should have a little slaughter to balance this out. :p

Theon III
The Karstark with Stannis are spying/intriguing for the Boltons. *whistles* Them bastards.

So Bolton goes rescue Theon on a white horse! That was unexpected. Though it's hilarious to see him deal with his son. And more intrigue to unfold; and more fun for the wedding. I fear there is not enough "poor Theon" in the world.

Tyrion VIII
Haha, so the perfumed whatever of Quaithe's warning is Tyrion's ship. Cute :D

And Tyrion is back to self-pity and describing the landscape. oy.

Details on the Doom of Valyria is always nice to take at least.

Bran III

"Do you like to read books, Bran?" Jojen asked him.
"Some books. I like the fighting stories. My sister Sansa likes the kissing stories, but those are stupid."

I like seeing Sansa and Bran paralleled for their love of stories. It suggests they shared discussions about books and that's ♥ "kissing books are stupid" is so Princess Bride XD

So far the Children of the Forest do turn out very... high fantasy stereotypes. Heh. The last visions are intriguing. Arya!like girls is obviously Lyanna; I wonder about those after that.

Anyway, I am very much enjoying myself reading so far.

Pst, it is I, T, trying to follow from the LJ feed. I just finished it, and been thinking of you, I really want to discuss this with you now - do you mean to stop by the old place ? Anyway please do post, I have my own very vehement opinions on some issues, and would love to know what you think.

The Bolton and Ramsay, and later Bolton and Theon convos, had me ROFLing and cringing. Weirdly great dialogue there, especially Bolton being all "jfc Ramsay, if you're going to torture everyone at the Dreadfort be subtle about it!!1" (yes, just like that XD)

I'm really loving Mel!

Not the Neck. There's only one place in Westeros where there are cannibals (that we know of, anyway) and you'd need a highly skilled ship captain to get there. Though I want to know why the hell Osha took Rickon there. She fails in her duty of care assessment, I think :-)

Though if Davos meets Rickon next book and he's already won over an army of unicorn-riding cannibal warriors to do his bidding, that would be totally awesome. Though possibly not in keeping with the series' tone.

The Children of the Forest/Those Who Sing the Songs of the Earth are pretty much straight-up fantasy stereotypes, yup. Though I wonder if that's deliberate. Everyone thought they'd turn out to be long-lived pixie-elves and that's what they turn out to be. Except they have a network of bio-computers that look like trees, which is kind of cool. Seriously, Bloodraven being plugged into one and warning Bran he'll have to be as well was some kind of weird arboreal cyberpunk cross-genre thing if I've ever seen one.

Tyrion pondering in earlier books about all the great wonders of the world and his father refusing to let him see any of them is quite amusing to remember. Tyrion gets too see Valyria (or a bit of it) on the horizon and totally bricks it and suggests they sail further out to sea :-)

Skagos, then. Coolness! We will end up visiting every landmarks on the maps! XD

I'm not sure you would have find this cyberpunkish at all if you hadn't watched Avatar in the midtime >_> I dunno, symbiotic relationship with weirwood doesn't feel clichés breaking or unexpected for me. It's... exactly what I'd expect actually. Okay, not to find Bloodraven plugged to one, so to speak; but still.

Yeap :)

Re Bran's vision - at the mention of "a very tall knight", I first thought of Dunk, and IIRC, he's supposed to go to Winterfell at some point, but I don't remember where I read that. That would be awesome, GRRM setting up his future novella that way.

A squee for Lyanna! Now we know that a) she was pretty good with a tourney sword, and b) was an excellend rider (from Theon's chapter, "that one was half a horse herself"). I am choosing to take this as hints that Lyanna was perfectly capable of being the Knight of the Laughing Tree. :-)

Shame on Quaithe for such stupid prophecies though. She only meant to scare Dany, I'm sure!

You're a much faster reader than I am!

Oooh yes. Dunk cvould work.

No real surprised for Lyanna :)

LOL well prophecies are 20/20 in hindsight, but... :)

Yes, I was thinking we got a sight of Dunk. And lots of references to Lyanna and Ned's faithful decision on Jon. I love the history. I'm beginning to wonder what Bran's faith will be though. Growing up to be a tree!

"I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only Snow."
I had the same reaction to that. Hilarious.

Not sure what to make off Roose. Almost pitied him for the loss of his other son. And he took the idea of Ramsay killing any future heirs very well...

Rattleshirt beating Jon Snow suddenly made sense. The manner of Mance's death surprised me...but never thought he was actually alive.
