Annihilation: Conquest

Still pretty good epic stuff; though slightly less well plotted (a bit too many plot twists, it felt a bit random at times). I was especially glad to see Peter Quills (and his delicious ragtag team of misfit) and Phyla-Vell get into more prominent narrative position; they're both pretty cool characters. The Nova parts felt a little bit Farscape at its best Weird Space Shit of the Week (must be all the PTSD piling up) which isn't a bad thing (and all the questing storytelling allowed this to overall not feel too much like a retread of the previous storyline despite being also structured by a Big Threat of Doom that Kills/Overtakes Everything). While there was a distinct lack of Paibok to steal the show, they had the High Evolutionary turn up to compensate and provide our daily dose of smug, pragmatic & amoral hilarity. Wraith is a new character right? I'm kind of puzzled that when they decided to create a new character for this series, they did one that feels so... dated. Don't they have enough bad ass brooding anti-heroic types in this story already? The story had a marked improvement in female characters having agency in the story; sadly it also got worse at having them become "soon dead"; while I hope some of them will recover, I will really mourn Kor-el

Guardians of the Galaxy #1-6

Great team, good story, good pacing, great storytelling, great characterisation.


And it even passes the Bechdel Test

I love the GotG. Less so A:C, it was good overall but also had a few bits that bugged me.

Yea, Wraith is odd. I don't think anything's used him since. He's practically a platonic ideal of brooding anti-hero, yet way more 2-dimensional than the others we have.

I think his mini is the weakest part of this whole run of Marvel space.

Killing off Praxagora (I think that's how it's spelled- the robot girl who liked Super-Skrull) seemed pretty needless.

The way Nova just showed up with Warlock and his son seemed a bit sudden in the main mini. I had read the Nova stuff so I knew they'd show up at some point, but in the main series it was just "Oh, they're here!" without prior mention of them or Nova's adventures with the phalanx, could've been less abrupt.

Merci pour la note personnelle. :-) Mais je suis une pathétique fangirl qui le savait déjà. :-) Je n'étais pas spécialement intéressée parce que le Phalanx m'ennuie assez nettement, et qu'en règle générale j'ai tendance à zapper la partie de Marvel qui se passe dans l'espace, mais si le High Evolutionary est là, ça peut peut-être se faire, effectivement. ^^
