I'm due an update I think. I haven't been reading much lately, but I just started reading Checkmate; and mostly, I've been continuing reading Claremont era X-Men stuff.

Liked a lot of the X-Men stuff - I'm up to issue #200 - though the art is starting to get very uneven. Let's not even mention the hairstyles. I kind of really liked the meeting between Storm and Forge.

I find the New Mutants stuff a bit more uneven; some stories are great (the Legion one, the whole Asgardian stuff, some of the standalone stories) others less so (the Nova Roma arc especially, that whole fatphobic thing with Karma was disturbing, and the introduction of the Hellions was a bit weak though not without potential). I especially like Dani and Illyana.

Read Secret Wars which is extremely dorky, mostly in fun ways but also in awkward ways. Gotta love the Aliens Made Them Do It premise.

Read the Kitty Pryde & Wolverine miniseries which was pretty good.

I agree about New Mutants - it's very up and down, and after about issue #50 it goes way down in quality. I think the art has dated on X-Men (as well as the clothes and hair - the 80s is a distinctive time!) but I still adore that era of stories.

If you like Checkmate, have you read the original run of Suicide Squad?

I've read... I think less than half of Suicide Squad. I should get back to it, I've been stuck for a while. It is very good; but the scans I have are pretty low quality, and the frequent crossovering makes me often confused (especially since I don't usually have the issues with which they're crossovering).

Apart from the big Checkmate crossover in the middle, it's not actually too bad for crossovers (even though the team actually starts in the Crisis on Infinite Earths!) Unfortunately, the print and paper quality weren't great in the first place, and the art up to issue 40 or so is very, very dark, so even good quality scans can be hard to follow. The Doom Patrol crossover is in a special and fun but skippable, the one-issue JLA crossover is terrific, and I never caught up on the Checkmate parts anyway.

Et oui, les coupes de cheveux des années 80, c'est quelque chose. ^^

Il faut vraiment que je lise Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. Mais ce n'est pas ces jours-ci que j'aurai le temps...

j'avais également lu l'issue flashback de la première rencontre de Xavier et Magneto dans laquelle on rencontre Gabrielle à ce moment là ^^

Moi j'aime bien les coiffures des années 80... *a un fond d'écran de punk!Storm et le même en plus petit pour son téléphone portable. Et une icône du même genre*

Ah, oui, la rencontre entre Storm et Forge est sympa, je suis d'accord.

Tiens, dans New Mutants, j'ai bien aimé Légion et Asgard, comme toi ; mais j'ai aussi adoré Nova Roma (l'arc avec tous mes kinks plein de thèmes que j'aime) et l'arc où Karma devient obèse - pas tout pour ce point de scénario en soi mais pour ce qu'il implique derrière. ^^

J'ai pas encore fini Secret Wars, mais presque, et ça m'éclate bien. Et en effet, Alien Make Them Do It, totalement. xDD

Ah, moi aussi, faudrait que je lise l'histoire sur Kitty et Wolvie, ça a l'air bien !

(Oui, je réagis tard, lol. En fait, j'étais venue chercher si t'as pas fait des icônes d'Emma et de Kitty dans Astonishing X-Men sur le "You teach ethics?!", mais je ne les retrouve pas, alors je flâne...)

Ben, punk!Storm j'adore, hein, c'est les autres coiffures. Rachel et ses cheveux ras + queue de rat oyoyoy; Rogue, avec les cheveux courts encore, c'est nul mais c'est pas terrible, mais plus tard elle les laisse pousser et elle les met à rebrousse poil c'est totallement horrible. Et ya Kitty post-hair cut qui passe par des passages franchement horribles.

Aillant lu une certain fic Karma/Storm, je vois ce que tu veux dire XDDD mais faut dire que moi, je ne kink pas énormement le mind control. Donc ça me touche pas plus que ça désolée XD

Whee Secret Wars. C'est tellement crack.

J'ai jamais fait d'icones d'stonishing. En fait vu que je lai lu en copie papier faudrait que je le download pour faire des icones mais ça peut se faire! Les seules icones de Kitty que j'ai fait jusqu'ici je crois que c'était celles de Wolverine: First Class (une petite série choupie récente, à base de on revisite les premières heures de X-Men et on s'amuse avec).

Issue 200 is when things start to get downhill more or less - at the same time as X-Factor starts. Coincidence?

Well, it doesn't get bad immediately. It's more like a long leisurely stroll downwards.
If you haven't read them, the back up stories of Classic X-Men which Claremont did with John Bolton are pretty good stuff. usually solo stories of X-characters.
They are collected in X-Men Vignettes 1 & 2
