It's so frustrating seeing reactions to the Huntress in DCnU is Helena Wayne thing, because so many people are excited and enthusiastic by it, and it's not like they're wrong for being excited and enthusiastic about it, they have very legitimate reasons for it!!! but each time I read it it feels like they're gloating about me losing one of my favorite DC character - yet another of my favorite DC characters.

And at this point I just. I cannot anymore, DC. Congrat. After Renée being so deep in limbo nobody even know what's up with her to tell the writers of Batwoman when they wanted to know, after Cass Cain and Steph Brown having their past as Batgirls and Robin so heavily erased and insulted and being in limbo and oh yeah at some point they'll show up in Leviathan and we have such a good habit of keeping our words so you can have faith in it, and the Birds of Prey history being erased, and Oracle being demoted to Batgirl and her disability offensively removed, and Secret Six disappearing, and Catwoman, Voodoo and Red Hood and the Outlaws being written in such a panderingly objectified way, this one is the last straw. I give up.

I love Batwoman and Demon Knights so I'm reading those as long as I keep on liking them; and if Cass and Steph ever do show up in another Bat book, I'll check it; but other than that it's going to take a hell of an interesting premise to make me bother to check out anything you do.

I agree with all the erasures, plus there's enough people with connections to the Wayne family around already and I can't see any reason to make Huntress another one. And curing disabilities aside, Oracle was a cool and unique character and Batgirl...well, there's a few of them. I like all of them, but I don't see why we have to lose Oracle to have a Batgirl.

You know how much I agree with all of this, but I just thought I'd drop by for a show of support anyway. :(

I'm sad to be losing a teacher by day, crossbow wielding vigilante by night too.

I like Huntress.
I like Power Girl.

I'm really not interested in picking up their new series

You know, I never read the comics and pretty much saw Huntress on JLU the cartoon, and familiarized myself with Cass and Renee through fanfiction, but from that I love them. It's sad they're getting such shitty treatment from the comic creators and that they obviously don't care about it. Sick of comics being a boy's club.

Yeah, there's an obvious disrespect to many female characters; although in this case Huntress is replaced with another version of Huntress (comics, everybody!) and will feature in an on going along with Powergirl, so it's not really bad gender wise. And other characters have been getting fucked who were male, like Wally West - but I think the characters affected by this pre-Crisis nostalgia are disproportionally female or of colour, because much more female and of colour characters were created / developed in the modern era of course.

Yea, DC doesn't seem to get the problem with eliminating characters horizontally across an era.

Vertically is one thing- spread between eras, even if you lose a few you have others you became fans of at the same time- but if it's horizontal, then people who started at certain times will lose a big chunk of their favs and have more reason to drop out.

Ah, very sharp comment about the horizontally across the era analysis. It's really generational isn't it? But yeah, as a result it alienates while generation of readers, and I get to feel like I started reading comics at the worst possible time XD

It would really be smarted to use it to select who the most interesting characters are from each era, I guess. Although that could be complicated but it's not like in this very case they went at it with any sort of forethought time/world building wise.

Ugh! I was upset about this revelation as well, but sadly, with the way everything else in this reboot has been seemingly designed to personally aggravate me, I had a feeling they would reveal that this is not infact the Helena that I love. :-/ I'm not even really liking the mini anyway, because it's such a re-hash of her recent adventure with Renee. Well, at least we know why she doesn't remember that!
