So the Avengers movie...

was very, very good. Probably the best superhero movie I've seen yet (not that I think the bar is placed very high, but still), Whedon definitly brought his A game in term of ensemble dynamics, snappy lines and making everything fizzle with a great sense of fun and geekness. Almost no character beat is missed.

My favorite character of the movie was easily Black Widow - but pretty much everyone had a chance to shine in a variety of clever and awesome ways, and I liked that attention was paid to have interesting interaction between a whole variety of pairs of characters (although still nothing that would allow the movie to pass the Bechdel test and I'm till pissed off that Hill got whitewashed.)

Maybe the sequel will have more female characters and pass the Bechdel test. But yeah, the casting of Maria was a bit... :-/

A handful. I think he was maybe the team member who was the less high-lightened though, but still got to look badass a few times.

I suspected it but I guess we'll have to see Jeremy Renner in the new Bourne film instead. At least Loki will have a good part in the film.

Yay, pleased to hear that Black Widow gets to be awesome! And that it actually is an ensemble piece and not a "three or four popular characters get all the good bits and everyone else is stuck in the background" mess like I was afraid it might be.

I'm hugely envious of you, though, since I still have to wait over a week to see it. (I know it's past time people in the U.S. got a dose of our own bad medicine in terms of premier dates, but that doesn't make the waiting any easier....)

Anything there that you think would be too scary/inappropriate for the rodents (almost-11 and 8 3/4 now)? O has been asking about it already, and it's the sort of movie that seems fun to watch in theaters. (They both watched the Iron Man ones, Thor, and Captain America with no issues.)

well I don't hang out with a lot of kids, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt - I'd say definitely okay for a 10 yo, but I'm unsure for a 8 yo there's one character dying at a point, with some amount of blood - I think that might be scary?

Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie. Judging by the trailers I've seen it looked like it was going to be a smashing hit. Can't wait to see it next Friday!

I am particularly pleased to hear Black Widow got a chance to shine in this movie; I felt she was underused in Iron Man 2. :(
