Finally finished watching The Flame's Daughter, a cdrama I started watching in 2020. I took a large gap in the middle because, to be honest, it's not very good. But I'm glad I finished it because there's a few cdrama and kdrama I started watching which I never finished watching (Story Yanxi Palace, The Goblin, and The Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People mainly).
Now that means I want to find a new asian drama to watch. Preferably historical or fantasy. I'm thinking maybe of the Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, but I'd like to take recs. Anything good people want to recommend to me?

Date: 3 June 2022 09:10 am (UTC)I've enjoyed Nirvana in Fire a lot (though more for the secondary characters than the main two guys). I liked Word of Honor but wasn't really into the main romance either. I've watched half of Story of Yanxli Palace and I first I liked the story and the main character being very tough and clever but after a while all the melodrama started being too much for me. In the Flame's Daughter, I mostly liked some of secondary cast but found the story pretty dreadful (and the LI was horrid).
So mostly well told stories is the big draw, I think? And likeable characters but that's a bit hard to tell what works and doesn't. I don't much like the characters who are smugly controlling because they know best and we're supposed to find that cool and tragic.

Modern/romance: You are My Glory
Modern/supernatural: Rattan
Historical (yet heavily censored): The Long Ballad
Modern/gaming: Crossfire
Classic Wuxia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKCDL7jjHqg
Modern/Cop: Under The Skin
China's warlord era/chinese opera/BL: Winter Begonia
Xianxia/epic romance:
- Love and Destiny starring Ni Ni and Chang Chen
- Eternal Love starring Mark Chao and Yang Mi
- Ashes of Love: watch this solely for the drama of the Heavenly Imperial Family. The main couple are idiotic.
