Happy birthday tintinalle !

Finally got to see PotC:DMC, whee ! So, overall I did like it even though it wasn't as good as the first movie.

The movie's biggest drawbacks were problems of pacing. I especially thought some action scenes were just too drawn and too cartoonish and, well, boring (not too mention the racism).
However I did love what they did with the characters.
It helped that the movie pushed one of my very hottest button when Elizabeth shackled Jack with a kiss. That was a scene where I could have literally squee-ed (and not in a shipping way either, but it was a wonderful dynamic). Actually, had the movie ended 5 minutes before it did, without the teaser to the 3rd movie, I would have been happy where it landed all characters, but that's little blood-and-heart-break-thirsty me ^_^
Otherwise Norrington was hot (yeah, he barely registered my radar before) and I was rooting for him to run with the heart XD (totally caught up on it when he took it)
Tia Dalma was hot, hot, hot (You know how much I love witches?) Can't wait to see what she'll be up to in the third.
Adored Pintel and Ragetti's commentary, they made some of the funniest bit of the movie.
Bootstrap could have been more interesting if, well, he hadn't been so stupid, and if he had stopped two minutes yelling "NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo"es every two seconds.
Davey Jones was too CGI-ed for my taste and only so-so as a villain IMO. Beckett however is just groovy. Awesome villain can't wait to see more of him.
One thing I hope for the third movie is less Kraken. A good Karen sashimi would do.
Okay, there's lot of plots or as-yet-unprecides character acs left hanging as well, which they'll need to tie properly. I don't approve of leaving a movie that unfinished in general.

Now I want to read fanfics ? Does anyone knows where I could find good Pirates fanfics ? The only ones I've read so far were linked from the JackxWillxElizabeth [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto a good while ago.

Weirdly enough I also want to re-read all of Corto Maltese, find Tim Powers' On Stranger Tides in English and read Neal Stephenson's The Confusion to see if there's more Jack Shaftoe in it (unlikely as that is)...

Oh, finally someone else who liked the pirate duo and their commentary! I adored the geeky etymologic discussion on the kraken.

As far as fics go, I can only report that there is some Jack/Norrington to be found, but it tends to follow the same general plot ([livejournal.com profile] sparrington is a place to start, and they had a few rec requests in the last two weeks). No idea about the other pairings; Will doesn't do anything for me, so I didn't look into them.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I followed the comments someone linked at your journal and found plenty of other people speaking their love for them. Yeah the "In Nordic it's kroken" thing was delicious ♥

thanks. I wouldn't have been interested in sparrington before, but now with the new and improved scruffy Norrington it's got a whole new appeal.

Will by his own bores me as well, but for some reason I find the Will/Elizabeth/Jack threesome more appealing than either of its component. What can I say, I like triangles.

The Confusion is chock-full of Jack Shaftoe.

Also you should go buy a British paperback edition of The System of the World and send it to me because I bought the other two while I was in Europe last year and I desperately want to read the third but I need my editions to match because I am vaguely OCD and definitely crazy.

woot ! I really thought he was a goner ! ^_^

I'll have to figure out which one is the Brittish edition but I could do that XD I'll ask that in exchange for one Tim Powers novel (say Lost Soul or Stranger Tides) because for some reason I have the hardest time finding them here. Deal ?

Yes those scenes were a bit (a lot actually) cartoonish. That's why I liked them. I would also have liked if the movie had stopped five minutes earlier. It was a nice picture (un joli tableau), somewhat reminiscent of a certain Bruce Lee movie (can't remember the title).

As for the racism (i believe you're alluding to the cannibal island scenes), yup I saw it too but it didn't really bother me. Yes they were a caricature.

I did like Norrington while I had found him boring in the first movie. And Elizabeth... You lied to Will !!!

Ditto on thinking that some of the action scenes were cartoonish. (Specifically, the whole scene on that cannibal island.)

And Norrington didn't do anything for me in the first movie, but oh man did he do it for me in the second one. *.* HAWT.

Please stop!

You are giving me all sorts of wicked sweet ideas about Hitoshi.

Or does it only work in fiction? ^^

I don't know. I'd need to test it on a live subject to validate it :p

Could be an interesting experiment - Ah, to be without morals and ethics...

I loved Pintel and Ragetti too! :D Especially Rags. He's the smartest character in the whole movie.

I didn't mind that the fight scenes were cartoonish - I kind of expected them to be like that. It was supposed to be a silly movie, after all, just like the first one. But I agree that they were too long.

lol I guess he is

For some reason I don't remember the first movie's characters as cartoonish, or they didn't annoy me so much. Maybe because they were less long ? ^^ I'd need to rewatch it.

There was the fight in the blacksmith workshop (with the donkey!), cannons shooting whatever they could find on the ship, Governor Swann fighting against a bony hand... I'd say the sillyness level was pretty much the same. ;)

Ah, I never said it was bad. I like the silly, cartoony fights. ;)

(Although I could do without the whole tribe running after that dog... Making a character look stupid = cool, everyone looks stupid at some point of the movie anyway. Making a whole tribe look stupid = not cool at all.)

Thanks! :D

I enjoyed that movie too - at the very least it was very funny in places. The main three(some) dynamic was well-played. I didn't mind Davey Jones because I like Bill Nighy regardless of anything else, heh heh, (and HEY tentacle p0rn jokes XD) but yes - soooooo much CGI all over him.^^
