Date: 14 October 2008 11:09 pm (UTC)1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
To be honest I don't have much of an opinion on Aral. Obviously, I don't dislike him, he's a sweet and charming person, and he's interesting in the role he plays in the narrative. But, you know, never really spent time thinking about him or anything.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
In the early books, yes. Otherwise he's just Miles' Impressive Dad.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Not much no. To me he's a bit of a distant and aloof character. But young!Aral seemed interesting, if only because I like self-destructive characters...
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Well the Vorkosigan fandom is pretty small and beyond reading the occasional fics I don't interact with it a lot, but it seems like a nice, cheerful and polite place - like small fandoms often are.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
*cough* I dunno if that counts as shipping, but I would read more Aral/Vorryuter.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Err, no.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I'd probably scared of him because of his military reputation and all those "Butcher of Komar" bullshite because I wouldn't know any better an thus would keep a respectful distance.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
No, not really.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
I might to a reader I know like this type of character, but I'm more likely to hype other things in the Vorkosigan series.

Date: 14 October 2008 11:19 pm (UTC)Harry is one of those rare main character of an ensemble cast which I actually really like. Mostly because I think that he's a bit of an underhanded bastard. I like that he's got this anger and violence simmering in, as well as the way he reach out to people; and that he can be very secretive and resourceful about dealing with his problems.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Well, duh. The books ain't called "Harry Potter and the McGuffin of Doomy Dooms" for nothing.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Not usually so much no.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Actually I think the HP fandom is pretty much awesome : it's ridiculously well organised into specific pairings and kinks, it's very prolific, wonderfully decadent and shameless, has provided some delightful fics, and actually is very well behaved and polite if you know the right place. Also endless fodder of drama and wanks to enjoy watching.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
My favourite Harry ship is Harry/Draco. I'd also sometimes read Harry/Snape, andHarry/Ron, Harry/Sirius...
It's not that easy to find it well characterised (few writers managed the venom necessary for good Snarry, and lots of Harry/Draco also lack in anger and antipathy) but when it's well done it's delicious.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Well... I don't think they're perfect books, that's for sure. But I'm not much into pondering what I'd change in a characters.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Oh, I probably wouldn't be able to stand the little brat.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Nah, I wouldn't go that far.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Everyone knows Harry Potter, no need to hype it.

Date: 14 October 2008 11:40 pm (UTC)1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I really like Rue! First because she's so pretty - I really love her character design, and because of her heartbreaking story, how desperate she is for love, how surprised and awkward she is with Ahiru's dorkish friendship at first; but also how spontaneously nice she is when she doesn't try to be distant or evil.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yes, she's one of the big main four. There's no story without her.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
She grip me emotionally, but I wouldn't say I relate exactly.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
I don't really know the Princess Tutu fandom. I read fics occasionally but I never hanged out there.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
In Princess Tutu I ship everyone with everyone XD so Mytho/Rue because she even loves him when he becomes a crow, Rue/Ahiru because it's adorable (and Ahiru has the cutest girlcrush on her), and Fakir/Rue because their bitching feist in the early anime episodes are hilarious. Oh, and Rue/Autor was cute and worthy of ficcing.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Not a bit.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I think I would like her, but I'd probably be a bit intimidated and never get well acquainted with her.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Hmmm... not quite.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
That's not really how I would hype Princess Tutu, no XD

Date: 15 October 2008 01:52 pm (UTC)I like Juri! She's a very cool and interesting character. Also she's got the best stories in SKU and yay canon lesbian. I love her attitude, determination, how she can scare teachers, and how intense she is about her love for Shiori. I also like that we've got sweeter sides of her to contrast, like when she shows up jewellery at Nanami's party or her friendship with Miki.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
She's not amongst the most important characters but as one of the duellist she's definitly at the core of the show.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Emotionally speaking I find her story very gripping because they're very well done, but I can't say I relate a lot with her.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
The SKU tends to be adorable. Lots of sweet and intelligent people, always up to perverse thoughts ^_^
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
I ship Juri/Shiori, Juri/Ruka and Juri/Ruka/Shiori :)
She has interesting interractions with Miki and Utena, platonicaly speaking.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
No.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I don't know, I tend to like girls with that kind of strong attitude, so, yeah, I guess I could befriend her.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not quite.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Yes, definitely!

Date: 15 October 2008 02:00 pm (UTC)I adore Nathaniel! He's my favourite character in those novels. He's adorkable, I like that he's something of a vicious, ambitious brat, but also has his sweet, loving sides; and how ridiculously proud he is. And the dorkishness.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
One of the main character, so, yeap.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I do feel for him a lot emotionally. I can relate with some of the feelings I got when I was a kid, that "I'll show them!" feeling.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
From what I could see the Bartimaeus fandom is made of kids, so, not so much.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Bartimaeus/Nathaniel OTP! well, you know me, I love 'em antagonistic ships and those two have some delightfully snarky yet caring interactions.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
I really didn't care for Kitty, so removing most things related to her?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
He's a brat, I don't think I would have cared for him so much XD
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not quite :D
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
YES!

Date: 15 October 2008 09:59 pm (UTC)1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I do adore Schmendrick, he's like the original clumsy wizard. He's adorable and sweet.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yes! No story without him because then the unicorn would never have become Amathea and she'd have gotten into the sea with the other unicorns.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I can feel sorry and relate with his yearning and his sense of failure, yes.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
There's a TLU fandom?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Schmendrick/Molly OTP well they're so married to each others. It's canon in the short story too!
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Nope.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
He sure wouldn't stand out from my other nerd friends XDD
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not really XD
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Sure, I might if it was to someone I knew like this kind of character!

Date: 15 October 2008 10:17 pm (UTC)1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
Sansa's one of my favourite character in the books. I really liked her from the beginning - although I thought the narrative treated her a bit unfairly in the rivalry with Arya, but then it got better IMHO. I like that she's always compassionate and kind, even when put into circumstances where she'd have a right to be bitter and angry; I like that she loves songs and romance so much, it makes her PoV fun (especially in the way it's unreliable). I also love the curtesy as armor shtick, I love it when a character who appears as weak and demure can show real strength, and that's the hopes I've got for Sansa :)
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Not so much so far. She's been instrumental to Joffrey's murder but she had very little agency into that. Although as a PoV she's been important to show events in Kings' Landing and Littlefinger's plotting - but otherwise she's been a pretty passive character as far as the broad plot is concerned.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Yeah, I can relate to the dreaminess as a fantasy book reader XD I've felt sorry for her as well when she was treated badly.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
ASOIAF is a very weird fandom. It tends to be pretty dramatic and wanky, but it can also be nice - I've made several good friends through it. It's also very divided into several subfandoms, so to speak, which don't seem to talk with each others much. Which, yeah, weird.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
I'm ridiculously fond of Sandor/Sansa XD they have a great dynamic despite the inherant creepiness. Or because of the inherant creepiness? Anyway it's a well done Beauty&beast pairing, and I really dig that. Littlefinger/Sansa, while even more creepy and not something I would truely ship is also a very intriguing relationship to explore.
Otherwise... I found Sansa and Cersei had some very interesting interactions in a non shippy way. Oh, and there's also Sansa & Arya's sisterhood. I would have like to see more of Sansa and Margaery interacting with each others too.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Have the narrative be more fair to her, from the beginning.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Hmmm hard to say. I think I would either stay on acquaintance level without getting much close or befriend and develop a crush on her.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
lol I guess she does.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Hmmm that's not likely.

Date: 16 October 2008 08:25 pm (UTC)I really like Ursa and find her a very intriguing character. She's a mother who saved her sons, but unlike most missing mothers out there in fiction, she didn't do so by sacrificing herself - she did it via political intrigue and murder. Which is not exactly good, yet makes her very badass and cool in my book. She also seems to be very sane and sweet from what we see of her.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
She's only a flashback characters, yet she did some pretty important moves to the overall plot for such a secondary character.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I wouldn't say so exactly.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Most of the avatar fandom is a bit too young, character bashing and shipping war happy for my taste, but there's a few delightful people within as well.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
I'm actually pretty fond of Osai/Ursa because I always like to wonder about villainous' characters love life and because Ozai seemed to really have loved her at some point. Otherwise we know enough about Ursa and Zuko's relationship, but it would be interesting to know more about the way Ursa related to Azula, given the role it plays in Azula's eventually decent into madness.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
SEEING MORE OF HER. And knowing what happened to her during the years of exile.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I think I would like her.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
No.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
I just did that recently XD

Date: 23 October 2008 01:18 am (UTC)I adore Kendra! First because she's very very pretty :) Second, because I always like her type of character, quiet stoic warrior woman. I thought Kendra was interesting in general, the way she doesn't show her emotion, her perfectionism and drive to prove herself in her past, the way this is still there in the present, but with the ambivalence she has toward what happened during Caine's becoming more and more crazy - the way she neither can turn her back on Caine and the admiration she had for her, but the the way those events haunt her anyway. There's a lot of ambiguity about her character which I found great.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
No. She's important to give a face to Pegasus in that one episode, but she doesn't really matter to the greater scheme, except perhaps to contrast Kara.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
She grips me emotionally, I wouldn't say I can relate to her.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
The BSG fandom is fine, even though I don't really follow it actively, it's got lots of great, intelligent people who are also welcoming and funny. I love that it creates a lot of awesome fanvids too!
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Not really, no. That's one of the thing I don't like about her, she's too hard to ship ;_;
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Have her in more than one episode, no matter how long.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Hmmm that's a difficult question. In terms of personnality, I think I would like her and even have a crush on her easily. In terms of who she is, though, I'm not sure how I could have related with her, or on what terms.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not really.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
No, because she doesn't matter to the overall plot.

Date: 25 October 2008 01:41 am (UTC)1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I adore Kara. She's awesome, brash, vulnerable, hot, compelling, full of contradictions. That flip side to the warrior woman character archetype i talked about above, the one who is cocky and flamboyant - it's a less frequent one, in women, than in male characters, and I appreciate that about her.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yes. She's the harbinger of the apocalypse after all :) definitly one of the big... err six, I guess who are main characters in BSG.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I can relate with the difficulties of opening up to someone and have intimate relationship with them - I always love characters like that, lol, and she grips me emotionally generally speaking.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
See answer above.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
No active shipping, but I rather enjoy the Lee/Kara train wreck of doom.
Her relationship with Leoben is also pretty interesting, in that mindfucked way.
Oh, and Kara/Kat of course.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Nah.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I don't really know. I can't really see us being friends, but not enemies either. Acquaintance, I think.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Yeah, I guess.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Yes, definitely.
